Removing Amazon DRM for Kindle & Calibre users - Computer - TV - Phones - Electrical
This will only be of interest to those of you who have a Kindle and also use the Calibre program.
If you buy a book from Amazon and download it to your Kindle, it is DRM protected and cannot be transferred to another Kindle if that is registered to a different Amazon account (or any other reader).
There are valid reasons for wanting to do such a transfer, e.g. a husband wanting to transfer a book to his wife.
This is the way I do it for both MOBI & AZW files:
Download plugin file:
http://www.epubee.co...03.5_plugin.zip
If that link becomes unavailable, just do a Google search for K4MobiDeDRM_v03.5_plugin.zip.
I found it in quite a few places.
NB: Do not unzip the file once downloaded.
Run Calibre.
Open Preferences.
In the Advanced section, click on the Plugins button.
Use the "Load plugin from file" button to select the plugin's zip file and click the 'Add' button.
You get a success message.
Click Apply - you could probably do this after adding the serial number, but I didn't try it that way.
Next you need to add the serial number of the Kindle for which the book was downloaded.
You can find the serial number of your Kindle under Settings, and you should also be able to see it on the Amazon webpage under manage My Kindle.
Go to Plugins again, and click the little arrow beside File type plugins to show the list of these, and click on the plugin K4PC? to select it.
Click Customize plug-in, and in the popup enter the Kindle serial number - without spaces. If you want to configure it for more than one Kindle, enter all the serial numbers separated by commas but no spaces.
Click OK.
Click Apply.
Close Preferences.
Restart Calibre
Now when you add books to Calibre, the plugin automatically removes the DRM. It takes a few seconds to do each one.
