Shum mishteak shurely? 3 days but only 2 dates?! ;-)

A quick glance at the calendar suggests that it's Friday 6th to Sunday 8th August?

I know - picky, picky, picky! But thanks for the heads up anyway.

Who is it that organises the event. Is there any chance that we could have an imput as to what is planed. Surely we can come up with something better than a beer tent, a stage with a few live bands. Sorry nearly forgot the foam.

It would be nice to have a wider variety of activities. Why have a beer tent when there are many bars in the area; some of them struggling to stay open? In the UK there are many local community festivals organised by local chamber's of trade or community forums. Why not have a La Marina Urb. festival committee?

As I am visiting in Europe at the moment (Europe ends at the Pyrenees say the French) I cannot check dates from my diaries, but this what I remember. We had two wonderful Urb Marina "Fun days" full of various events in early summer in 2006 and 2007. They were organised by a small local group of volunteers. However, the organisers gave up, partly because it's exhausting work extending over many months, but also because they received much too much thankless criticism from their fellow Brits. The town hall then decided to sponser a local fiesta on the Urb in early August in 2008 and 2009. Although part of the original justification for this fiesta was to try to bridge the Spanish and expat communities, I heard very little castellano either year. Suggestions for setting up festival committees make sense only if you are willing to put in the long hours yourself.

Have to agree with Andreu. People who give up their time voluntarily have to work extremely hard on organising such events for no recompense, often having to put their hands in their own pockets, and in many cases receiving little thanks and a lot of moaning from people who themselves do nothing to help.

For people to put such time and effort into organising an event like this there has to be some sort of pay-back to warrant the work involved- commercial businesses for example. Even then I doubt that the rewards are great enough for businesses to want to do this.

The Council have their own agenda - so they can say how good they are for providing people on La Marina their own festival (and hope they get elected again) It would be better for them if they take note that many people on the urb would love a little more intercambio on these events and chuck in a few tapas, paella and flamenco dancers/singers into the mix along with the beer tent and foam party, (surely not too difficult for them to arrange) then our Spanish neighbours might join in more.

I agree with you Jan. WE don't want a major change to the event just some additional features to make it more of a Spanish fiesta.
The council must take advise from someone, is it not possible to contact the person responsible in the council to see if these extras can be included. By the way I don't mind making contact and passing on suggestions.

Hope more people take their camera this year, as last year it went by with the odd poor quality mobile pictures, or was it the photgrapher was tipsy?
I hope to be there with my camera xx

According to the recent meeting held by the Ayuntamiento, Mark Lewis is now the "Councilor for Fiestas" (as well as for animals).
Send any suggestions to him.

Regarding the Fiesta. There is a contact email address for the department/ Mark Lewis. I sent an email a couple of weeks ago and asked if it was possible to have some changes to the La Marina Fiesta.
To date I have not had a reply. I also stated that I was more than happy to help out/ assist if it was needed, again no reply.
Some posters have stated that they could not get any help when organising events such as the annual fiesta, well it seems like the main man doesn't want any help or doesnt want to change the format or have any annoying outsiders spoiling his day.

Posted ImageThe 2010 Summer Fiesta in La Marina urbanisation is going to be different. We have joined with Vibe FM and this year all three days of the fiesta will be a Musical Showcase featuring bands from all over Europe. Their performances will be broadcast live over the radio and the Internet. Vibe FM will also be there all the three days of the fiesta broadcasting live from the location. Viva television will cover the whole event. Those already on the list to perform live at this year's fiesta are the international Boy Band sensation 'Access All Areas', popular young Irish group Key of Atlas, The Voodoos, female vocalist Laura Broad and Oisin Hennessy. To encourage up and coming unsigned bands to perform at the fiesta one lucky band or singer will be chosen to launch an original song in the USA to be played on hundreds of radio stations and which may well lead to a recording contract. Due to this fantastic opportunity as a live showcase of acts the Town Hall has confirmed that no payment is being made or received from artists.

The dates for this year's Summer Fiesta will be 6th to 8th August inclusive. The venue will be the Consum Supermarket Centro Comercial car park in La Marina urbanisation. There will not be any fireworks at this years fiesta but other new and different events are being organised. There will be a giant foam pit for the children (much bigger than last years), a dancing display, a giant paella for 700 people and much more... watch this space for updates soon.

cheers John

Hi,

Just seen the line up for the Fiesta very disappointing not one Spanish
act performing it seems. We have the obligatory paella to give it a theme and no fireworks this year.
It is such a shame no wonder our Spanish friends feel excluded.
I know the majority of us ex-pats would love a more
traditional feel to events and this doesn't really help intergration.

My advice would be to get more involvement and interaction in order to create a multicultural event. A "fiesta" takes quite a few months of planning and work, so perhaps you should be looking at next year. Try to talk to people in Council and also your Spanish neighbours. Get them involved as well. Write letters, get sponsors... it is all hard work, but it can be rewarding. I hope that soon I will be able to give you a hand.

I did mention in an earlier post, that I had contacted the council.I offered some ideas to make it a more balanced fiesta ie Spanish/English. I offered to help if required, I did not receive any reply. Make up your own mind.

It appears this years festival has been arranged by a local radio station ( Vibe FM ) so I expect it will just be a promotional exercise for the radio station , probably didnt cost the council anything , so they wont be bothered one way or another . According to the radio stations web site it is the only dedicated chart hit radio station on the costa blanca so heaven knows what we will get .
