COSTA BLANCA FORUMS: Landlady - Viewing Profile

My name on the forum is landlady because I started in this forum game many years back by being asked to join three web-designers as their ideas person on a new project to set up a website based on a real pub. We called it the mucky duck and it was great fun trying to get all the different pages on a pub theme.

We had a games room, with lots of online games to do, a salon with book links etc. we even had a toilet for smutty jokes to be told (bit like my bar room on these forums) One of my ideas was to have a pub ghost, so one of the group designed one that would pop up on the pages and say boo when site visitors was least expecting it.

The site was looking great, but sadly, one by one, the designers couldn´t spare so much time to this project because of work commitments and left. It was finally left to me to hold the fort and keep the forums going - I learned quite a bit on the way. I couldn´t manage such a big site on my own, so set up a free bravenet type forum so all registered members could all keep in touch.

When I moved to Spain, I let it all go, but helped out again on another forum so these members could stay in touch. However, I missed running a forum, so started one up again from scratch for the area I live in - La Marina. After a while I opened the forums up to other areas of the Costa Blanca.

I also started (and have now finished) a project with my language teacher to provide a website showing Spanish language video lessons.

My websites have been challenging and enjoyable to set-up and have made me lots of new friends, and lost me others. There is something about the written word that can cause much more upset and offense than face to face conversations - without the accompanying body language or facial expressions a sentence can be taken differently by different people - and no-one likes being told off for not following the site rules, no matter how gently it is put

We all gain a lot through the use of forums though - mainly information, but also a bit of fun and friendship - so long may they continue
