Whilst I am in talks with another website owner about them taking over this site I hope you understand why I removed the post about joining other forums.  I obviously don´t want to scupper my chances of keeping this site going, with all the information it contains and it´s very large membership base, as it will be in the best interest of you all to hang on to it, rather than starting from scratch on another.

A decision won´t be long, so please be patient.

Good idea! I do hope you/they can keep this site going in it's present format.

Very best of luck with your endeavours.

It looks like it will be going ahead. It´s a little complicated as I have my hosting account registered under my costablancaforums.com domain name, which will be transferred to the new owners along with my lamarinaforum.com domain. On the same hosts I have my other website - spanishlanguagesite.com which I don´t want to lose, so I´ll need to change my host account name.  Transferring the forum to the new owners hosting is the easy part - it´s sorting the domain names that might take a little while.

I believe Alex and his mum will be keeping the format very similar to it is at present - but no doubt will make improvements.

If you find the site goes down for a while, just keep checking back and it will re-appear with, fingers crossed, all posts etc. intact.

I´ll still be around as a member, just not owning or managing it. :)

Well, the site is sold now so Jan from the other forum and her son Alex are now the new owners :)

It will be a little while before everything is transferred over, but you probably won´t even notice.  I hope you all continue to post regularly and continue your online friendships.  It´s been a pleasure for me to get to know so many people through this website, many of whom I´ve made friends with in the real world.  I´ve had a lot of fun with the site over the years with only very few problem members.

:36_11_5[1]:  Now I can relax and let someone else sort them out  :f_eyebrows:

Thanks for supporting me for all these years.  :kiss_17:

Well done, Jan, and enjoy your retirement!

I'm sure all of us regulars are sorry to see you go.

ut don't forget to post here when you've got something to say. Same goes, of course, to Don.

I'm just glad that when I joined the other forum, I explained why I'd done so, and this prompted Alex to take us over.

Without this, we would have sunk without trace, and all the good information on this forum would have been lost.

I have to admit that I'm disappointed so few members have liked or commented on Jan's good news.

Let's hear from you if you haven't already done a like or comment - don't you care one way or the other?

Hi all

May I also add a thanks to Jan for all her hard work over the years. Just to introduce myself, my name's Alex and I work with a different Jan on a number of websites including www.talkquesada.com and www.costablancaforum.com.

When we saw that Jan was considering leaving her websites and not renewing them we wanted to ensure that they were kept alive. Our aim is to create websites that give local residents and holiday makers in Spain a friendly and welcoming place to chat and swap useful information. We have always seen lamarinaforum.com as a very nice community with lots of useful information, so wanted to ensure that it stays on the web and doesn’t disappear.

Our plans for the website is to keep everything as it is now and also introduce a few extra features that will be useful to members including:
  • Making the pages mobile-friendly for guests
  • Optimising the pages so they can be found even easier on search engines (Jan has done a great job on this so far)
  • Creating an email newsletter to send members the latest posts and information
  • Integrating the information from both this website and our La Marina section on www.costablancaforum.com so it doesn't matter which site you are on you will always find useful information.
Of course, if Jan and her members have any suggestions please let us know. Jan has done a great job on the website and we are very lucky to be taking over with so much work already done compared to other websites out there.

Thank you Jan once again

From Alex and another Jan!

Alex, I don't know if it's a fault, or just how the program works, but I'm not getting notifications of when someone replies to a topic, only of the original post. My settings have got ticks in every box for notifications.

Either way, it would be good to know when replies are posted.

TIA,

Geoff.

Hi Geoff

Thanks for letting me know. Did these notifications ever work before the move to the new hosting?

Alex

Not immediately before, no.

I may be wrong, but I think they stopped working a year or two back.

Anyway, whatever the situation, it would be good if they did work!

Geoff.

Working fine for me, Geoff.

There was a period when I missed one or two, but for some while it's been perfectly OK.

All I can suggest is a reboot - untick the boxes, Save changes, retick, save again.

As well as the ticks under the Email column, have you also got a tick in Auto follow topics on the left, with this set on Immediate?

Thanks for that info Jim.

Here is the link for those wanting to change their notification settings:

http://lamarinaforum...a=notifications

Geoff - please let me know if you have ticked these and set the dropdown to "immediate" and it still doesn't work

Thanks

Alex
